James V: Katherine

By Rona Munro, presented by Raw Material + Capital Theatres
  • Drama

"Any human soul has only two real choices. How we live, and how we die."

One woman’s love story during a time that changed Scotland forever.

The renowned James Plays continue with this fifth standalone episode, which will surprise and delight audiences when presented as an up-close-and-intimate performance, with focussed, raw storytelling, in theatres around Scotland.

Directed by Orla O’Loughlin, James V: Katherine places a lesser-known female historical figure front and centre in the story – a nineteen-year-old woman on trial in the King’s court, defending herself from being executed.

This play is based on real historical figures and is a dramatic interpretation of key events at the very start of the Scottish Reformation, events which did happen and did change Scotland forever. This is also a love story….
