Our new season brochure landed late last month and we've been rounding up the Eden Court team's top recommendations to help you navigate our Spring Summer season.

Stornoway, Quebec
I'm looking forward to a bit of Gael representation this spring, starting with Theatre Gu Leòr's Stornoway, Quebec, a Western written by Dingwall local Calum L. MacLeòid. I'm excited to see a play performed in Gaelic (as well as Québécoise, English and BSL) in the OneTouch and the translator in me is especially keen to see how the translated surtitles will work in a theatre setting. It also sheds light on an unsung part of Scottish history which had a lasting effect on thousands of Gaelic speakers in the 19th century. It's great that Eden Court is championing productions that use and promote Gaelic language and culture in the Spring Summer 2023 programme.

Josie Long: Re-Enchantment
Josie Long always comes across as smart and very funny whenever I’ve seen her on telly. She’s one of the very few comedians to have actually been recommended by Stewart Lee, which I think speaks volumes. More importantly however a good friend of mine saw her as part of one of the brilliant Tae Sup wi’ a Fifer shows at Eden Court and told me Josie was the best part of the night. There’s so much comedy this year across both theatres and goodness knows we all need a laugh. Go and see Josie and I know she’ll make you laugh!

The Amazing Bubble Man
I am personally really looking forward to The Amazing Bubble Man in September. Part of me would love to know how Louis Pearl fills the bubbles with fog, or makes square bubbles, or how he even dances with the bubbles. But a bigger part of me just wants to revel in the wonder and magic of it.

Ailey 2
I am really looking forward to seeing Ailey 2, the young company of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. I’m a huge dance fan and you can’t help feeling just a little bit proud at having one of the most internationally renowned modern dance companies here on our stage.

The Mousetrap: 70th Anniversary Tour
As a massive Agatha Christie fan, it is lovely to see The Mousetrap generate the same level of excitement for people 70 years on, whether it is someone’s first time seeing it or they are keen to see the events unfold again and share their love of it with friends and family. I think it will be the best kind of escapism with the perfect blend of suspense and humour. I can’t wait to get swept up in the story from the moment the lights dim and play detective to try and piece all the clues together. I don’t doubt there will be plenty of twists along the way.

Kidnapped
I’m looking forward to this fun, irreverent and musical new version of this classic Scottish romantic adventure story. The writer and musical director are the same partnership that brought us Pride and Prejudice* (*Sort Of) and there is a really strong team of Scottish actor/musicians on board to bring the story to life. There has been excitement at the National Theatre of Scotland about this production ever since the very first development period.

The Sound of Springsteen
Although I knew who Bruce Springsteen was and had heard some of his songs, I never got into his music until recently when a friend introduced me to the world of ‘The Boss’. I have to say I’m slowly being converted to a fan - with my new favourite song being ‘I’m Goin’ Down’. This show is a must for those fans who haven’t been able to get tickets for his 2023 tour!

Abigail's Party
I'm so interested to see Abigail's Party as I've never seen it in its entirety, just snippets on TV programmes. As a child of the 70s I'm looking forward to being transported back to the days without all the technology we now couldn't live without. Much as I love all the musicals we get I can't wait to be fully engrossed in a really gritty onstage drama.
